OECD / Barksanem™

Sometimes, in the course of the life of a person or company, official “announcements” are only a public acknowledgment of interactions that have been going on for many years. This is definitely the case with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The OECD has become a key stakeholder for Barksanem™.

The OECD Due Diligence Guidance provides detailed recommendations to help companies respect ‌human rights and avoid contributing to conflict through their mineral purchasing decisions and practices.

Not only has Barksanem™ successfully integrated the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas into our ISO normative procedures and Corporate Policies, we have developed an internal Implementation Handbook for these procedures, their monitoring, and continuous improvement.

Furthermore, Etienne Atger, Barksanem™’s CEO and President has been a guest speaker at the Annual Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains.

The OECD Secretariat and its unit on responsible business conduct have been and will be a key stakeholder in Barksanem™’s Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining initiatives until fraud and conflict minerals are nothing but a distant memory of how things unfortunately were.

…..

Barksanem™’s business practice is fully compliant with current regulations:

  • Artisanal Mining Code, Labor Code, Tax Code and Environment Code in effect in country of deployment of activities.

In addition, Barksanem™ has already voluntarily incorporated pertinent guidelines of major international principles:

Furthermore, Barksanem™ aims to embrace several international mineral governance policies:

Complying to these regulations, policies and guidelines reflect Barksanem™’s commitment to fight against all forms of fraud and illicit practices in the mining sector, to offer employment alternatives for women and children on mining sites and maintain safety and security of our operations within an operating framework that encourages respect for human rights.
