Why Burkina Faso?

From time to time we are asked, why did we choose Burkina Faso to develop our mining operations and create our training and research hubs for the Texas-based company Barksanem™, Inc?

Actually, there are many reasons.

History first of all, since one of the two founders is Burkinabe and the second grew up in this region of Africa and he knew Burkina while it was still called Upper Volta! Due to these many years in country, their relational network is very strong. In addition to the two mining companies they owned and managed in the early 2000s.

Secondly, Economics. On one hand, the incentive policies of the Government of Burkina Faso make this country a favorable space for the creation and development of innovative companies. On the other hand, and this is one of the most important aspects given the vision of the Barksanem™ companies, Burkina Faso is one of the countries on the continent with some of the most untapped mineral reserves. Burkina Faso, for example, is one of the top 3 African countries in terms of gold reserves. Production prospects for 2018 are around 40 tons.

Third: Legal, fiscal and mining frameworks are still important aspects of our choice of location in the country. The new Mining Code was validated in 2016 and provides a favorable framework for all stakeholders in the field.

In addition, it is estimated that around 2,000,000 artisanal gold miners work in Burkina Faso. This represents a very large and growing population, made up of micro-communities whose local dynamics and needs remain a real challenge for state institutions as well as those working in direct relationship with them.  As a mining company, our ultimate goal, beyond the profitability and sustainability of our businesses, which is essential to achieve this ultimate goal, is the self-sufficiency of micro-collectivities , and first and foremost mining micro-collectivities .
